It All Starts With Healthy Soil

Understanding and caring for your soil is the first step to a healthy lawn or garden. Whether they're tulips, turf, or rhododendrons, plants need to get the right kinds of nutrients from soil to thrive.

Keeping your soil healthy can help protect water quality. With the right structure and microorganisms, soil can effectively capture nutrients and filter pollutants out of rainwater (also called stormwater) before it runs into a lake, stream, or aquifer. Plus, healthy soil is essential to vigorous plants, which are better able to fight off pests and diseases on their own, without pesticides-reducing the amount of chemicals that might get into Lake Whatcom.
